Pet names!

Pets.... What is the next best thing next to their unconditional love?
Naming them of course!
Growing up we totally loved our freaky pets and we loved thinking up crazy names!
Mom's cat from before I was born was A. Squats - Alexander Quincy Squats in all his one eyed, balding, cauliflower eared, limping lovable goodness! (Pretty sure I blogged about him before...)
"My" first pet (next to the furry beach ball A. Squats) was a puppy my dad brought home from his gas station - ok, maybe not a puppy since she was the gas station watch dog... He asked what I wanted to name her and I started to sing "When sunny gets blue...her eyes get grey and cloudy..." Yes - I was a strange child...So we named her Sunny. I "hearted" Sunny!
When I was about 5 ( I am totally guessing - I know I was young)...
My mother asked me what I wanted to name our cat...
I started to sing the alphabet...
A - B - C -D -E -F & so on...(yes - I loved singing even back then!)
My mother said we will just name him AB...but what should those letters stand for?
We came up with Abraham Benjamin *laughs* I must have been learning about the presidents!?
Then came our next cat... CD of course! Clarence Darrow...what better then to name your cat after a lawyer who argued for evolution against creation...yes, what ideal Catholics we were!
Then came EF ... the hamster that brought all this nostalga up this evening... Enob Femur was his name... *laughs* It just came to me.... Femur... & bone backwards was enob - perfect - EF! Again...a strange child that was obsessed with Barnabus Collins, blood and bones!
Then we had GH... I was older and started loving old movies...so Gatsby game to mind.... no idea where we got Horatio... but it fit. Gatsby was awesome an loved to curl around your neck and suck on your earlobe. Sadly EF & GH met their fates in our house fire :( AB hid with A.Squats in the basement! Once the house was rebuilt we got our last cat before I moved out...
IJ - Icabod Jacoby! Jacboby was a killer Persian cat with golden eyes - truely beautiful....until his humans drove him insane...but that's a story for another blog!
*laughs* what fabulous memories...
What about you? What are the names of your pets?

i heart you and all your quirky strangeness!

The only really cute name we've had for a pet was a chameleon Trinity named Camou Flage and she called him Mr. Flade. yeah, she's a weird one too!

My bestest kitty I ever had was named Kelsey. I miss him still and it's been 9 years...

And to continue after you moved out. Then came Opium the crazy black cat. We started to call him Dopey Opie then shortened it to just Dopey. He was even registered with the vet as Dopey. He was nearly 20 years old when I moved to California. We had him put down because he was senile and our once bravest cat in the world became fearful of everything. I was afraid the 3000 mile trip would kill him from fear.

Anna brought PIA when she moved in... short for pain in the ass. She had a weird cork screw tail that she curled on top of her back. She was a ferral ... never friendly, just tolerant of humans.

And Holly, the world's friendliest cat. She had the bad habit of wandering so we named her after our street, Holly Ave. When we got her she was totally declawed, front and back. We noticed her feet looked very wide. She had extra toes on all four and being declawed never stopped her from climbing trees with crazey Dopey.
Plus she had a "punch" that could knock over a dog.

Finally, Muttley, one of the world's funniest looking dogs. Half bassett, half wired hair terrier, body of a bassett, face like Benji, dread locks on his rear legs. Could clear the house with his farts. My daughter now has Muttley who she claims is living way past his life span just for spite.

All four of the above were "used" pets rescued from the pound.

Living in an apartment and frequently traveling I miss having pets.

I believe we missed another hamster KL or Kinky Lucifer who came before OP (Opium) *laughs*
I need a house of my own so I can restart the alphabet linage!

And the thing I forgot to mention about Sunny. I always used to sing "When Sunny Gets Blue" to her and she seemed to know it and would sit down and listen. Only a dog could stand to listen to my Selma Diamond voice.

There was another hampster in there .... but I don't remember Kinky Lucifer? Why did you get to name my hampters anyway???? My cats were not very original names (I'll blame the ex for that) Jinx came named and since it was a cool name .... we kept it. My current foster kitties are names after superheros. Kent as in Clark Kent aka Superman and Parker as in Peter Parker aka Spiderman.

My first cat was Louie, and my parents said that I named him King Louis XIV - at about age 6. ::shrugs:: Damned past lives!

And do you remember my old lab, Karma? Years ago I saw a Non Sequitur with a man scolding a dog saying "Bad Karma!" It cracked me up and I knew that my first dog would be "Karma" - always good, or no, but never bad! :D

Love those funky names. Brilliant! My friends always gave their pets two names, usually beginning with a Miss. or a Mr. But I'm a bit boring.

My cats now are Dexter and Daisy. Dex after my favourite TV serial killer. And Daisy after the song "Daisy, Daisy, give me your heart so true.." My neices and I sing it all the time.
